5 Ways to Entertain Your Tiny Humans This Summer

Whether you homeschool or have your children in public school, are just getting started in the parenting game, or have older children, keeping those younger humans entertained when school isn't in session can be challenging!

Thankfully, my family lives in an area where there is no shortage of activities put on by organizations to keep my entertainment planning needs to a minimum. Here you will find my not-so-complete list of ways to keep your children entertained during the long, hot days of summer vacation! While not all of these opportunities may be available in your area, I think that you will find inspiration to start digging and find some activities of your own!

1) Free Summer Lunch Programs

Many communities across the U.S. offer a free summer lunch program to students in their area!!

Check THIS link to find a location near you that may be serving up hot or sack lunches this summer. Save money on the budget and time on your hands!!

2) Library Programs

Many libraries offer summer reading programs with additional programs and incentives. In our area, these extra programs and incentives are in conjunction with the Parks & Rec department and include: Magic Shows, Weekly Movies in the park, afternoon concerts, animal demonstrations, and carnivals.

If you'd like a sampling of our activities and events click here .

3) Nature Programs Check your local nature areas for local summer activities. Check for activities in Audubon Societies, Nature preserves, beaches, state parks, forestry, fisheries etc. Here in the Puget Sound, we have a variety of ocean based activities both free and low cost. These activities include Meet The Beach , Low Tide Exploration, Beach and River Surveys, Pier Peer , Marine Creature Monday .

4) Local Education Centers Be sure to check out all the local Education centers in your area: Native American, Ecology, Government Agencies, Local Utilities. Many of these places want to educate the the public and offer programs or events to do so. We have a specific location in our area that does such a thing with weekly and monthly events.

Check out these options if you live in Thurston County:

Tour the Port (We've done this before and it's really great! I would suggest strollers for littles)

5) Summer Movies

Many of the main movie theaters offer discounted summer movie options! These include $1 movies with some great newer options and often discounted snack packages. With Regal you have 2 movie options 2 days a week!!
