Buy Nothing

Can I just make a quick plug for one of my favorite (and I would assume fastest growing) pages on facebook?
About a year ago I found a page called "Buy Nothing" and being a bargain hunter, this understandably caught my eye! I quickly joined the page & found a very different type of community. This community gifts & asks for gifts without regard to demographics like age, gender, desperation etc. The idea is that your neighbor has everything you could possibly need, in abundance, and they can offer it up to you and others!
Over time and much to the dismay of the members of the original large group that I was a part of, the group got split into much more "hyper-local" groups to make gifting to your "neighbor" easier & more meaningful. This took a bit of getting used to but made a lot of sense. We went from gifting to people a city away to gifting to our direct city reigon. I've seen such abundance and so much love shared in this community that it makes me want to just get to know even more of my neighbors! We've seen people rally around families who experience loss, families planning weddings, people having health struggles and stepping up for community causes. This is above and beyond all the gifting that goes on on a regular basis with basic items like excess ingredients, toys, clothes etc.
In less than 5 minutes after posting a "ask" for a simple ingredient that I'd rather not run out to the store for, a neighbor (less than 5 houses away) offered this as a gift! I'm amazed! Her abundance fills a need in my home and we're getting closer with those in the community!
If you haven't experienced this incredible site yet, please find one near you!
